Bro. Perry L. Patton

Brother Perry L. Patton, 66, of Monroe Township, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Mr. Patton was born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 10, 1950 and was the son of the late Harvey and Leah Race Patton.

The family owned and operated their farm, which was truly a passion he loved. He was born a farmer at heart, and worked on the family farm as a child alongside his mother and father until his father’s retirement. Perry continued to own and live there even after his father’s retirement. He also worked hard as a relief postal mail carrier, creating new campsites at Frances Slocum State Park, Profera’s and retired after 18 years of service as an operator for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation until his retirement.

Perry’s greatest gift of all, was the way he made everyone smile. He loved people, children and animals. His generosity, wit and humor made him an unforgettable person to everyone.

Perry was a wonderful loving husband to his wife of 46 years, Marlene, and proud father of daughter, Angela Yorina and her husband, Carl; and son, Chad Patton and his wife, Diana; adoring grandfather of Kaylee and Cara Yorina and Alex and Madison Patton, who were his greatest joy; sisters, Charlotte Hopfer, Beverly Weiss and her husband, John; and Delores Swantek and her husband, Alan; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by brother-in-law, David Hopfer.

Funeral service will be private and there will be no calling hours.

Bro. Gary W. Miller – Life Member

Brother Gary William Miller, 71, of Shavertown, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at home.

Mr. Miller was born in Kingston on June 20, 1945 and was the son of the late William and Veldra Cragle Miller.

Gary graduated from Northwest High School in 1964 and owned and operated GW Miller Hauling and Excavating. He was a member of Irem Temple, George M. Dallas Lodge 531, Sons of American Legion and the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Johanna Laskowski and sister, Audrey Gregory.

Gary is survived by his wife, the former Mary Rogan; daughter, Johanna Lois Ann Miller, San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Lois Borchick, Benton; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Bro. Edward Forster

Bro. Edward Forster, 76, of Dallas, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Isaac and Marie Kyle Forster and was a graduate of Plains High School.

He was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 163 union.

Edward was a veteran and a member of Daddow Isaacs Post 672 American Legion, Dallas, George M. Dallas Lodge 531, F&AM, Valley of Bloomsburg and Irem Shrine.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sandra George, in January of this year, and brothers, Isaac and Dave Forster.

Surviving are his daughters, Wendy DeLuca, Washington state; and Amber Seals and her husband, Chris, Wilmore, Ky.; sons, Edward Forster and his wife, Heather, Kunkle; and Jason Forster and his wife, Kristen, Shickshinny; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. David Martin, pastor, Cross Creek Community Church, Dallas, officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Bro. Robert Brown – Life Member

Bro. Robert W. Brown, 91, of Dallas, formerly of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at Tiffany Court Manor in Kingston.

Born on Feb. 17, 1925, in Allentown, Robert was the son of the late John M. Brown and the late Eleanor (Eddy) Brown.

Robert graduated from Dallas Borough High School, class of 1943. Upon graduation, Bob entered the U.S. Navy and served from 1943 to 1946. He married Marjorie Evans in May 1945. Together they celebrated nearly 67 years of marriage before Marge’s passing in 2013.

Bob’s professional career spanned decades of banking services. Beginning in Dallas at the First National Bank of Dallas in 1950, he continued banking in various positions at area banks, including the former Hanover National Bank, First Bank of Sayre, Plymouth National Bank and First Eastern Bank, retiring in 1986 as the senior vice-president/retail loans.

Bob also served in various positions for the town of Dallas, including member of The Dallas Borough Board of Health, borough secretary, mayor, councilman and borough manager. His community activities involved Dallas Rotary, Back Mountain Library board, Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority, Back Mountain Little League and a member of the 100F Dallas Lodge, George M. Dallas Lodge F.A. & M, Caldwell consistory, Bloomsburg, and Irem Temple Dallas, where he was in the “Arab Patrol” and “The Stewards.” Bob also served in the various voluntary capacities within the Dallas United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Bob had been preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Brown; and brothers, John P. Brown and George Brown.

Bob is survived by his son, Dr. Robert L. Brown, of Hilton Head, S.C.; and daughter, Shirley R. Breymeier, of Dallas. Along with four grandchildren, Amy Saenz, of Tampa, Fla., Benjamin Brown, of Greenwood Village, Colo., Daniel and Matthew Breymeier, both of Kingston; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Alex, and Tyler Brown, and Trey Saenz.

Cremation had been held privately. Memorial services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dallas United Methodist Church, 4 Parsonage St., Dallas, PA 18612.

Bro. Ronald B. Grant – Life Member

Brother Ronald B. Grant, Sr., 71, of Watsontown, died Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born February 14, 1945 in Boston, Mass., he was a son of the late John and Gloria (Nelson) Grant.

Ronald was a 1963 graduate from Dallas High School.  He served honorably in the United States Navy.  Early in life, he worked as an independent salesman selling Mac Tools.  He had currently been working as a Diesel Mechanic for Watsontown Trucking, for more than 30 years.

Ronald was a member of the Clyde F. Mowrer American Legion Post 323, Watsontown, and the George M. Dallas Masonic Lodge 531, Dallas.  He was an avid hunter and belonged to the Tent Hunting Cabin, Bradford County.  Ronald also enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Alaska.

Surviving are one son, Ronald B. Grant, Jr. and his companion, Kayce Colombe, of Danville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Michael Steele, of Watsontown and Melissa and Kevin Swartz, of Milton; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Tina Grant, of Jersey Shore; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria and Arthur Zimmerman, of York and Susan and William Klaips, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Dylan and Connor Steele, Brett Swartz and Angel DeGraw; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. with the Rev. James R. Dries of the First Baptist Church, Milton, officiating.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Bro. James T. Kozemchak, Jr.

Bro. James T. Kozemchak, Jr., 72, of Harvey’s Lake, PA passed away, Friday, February 26, 2016 in Dallas, PA.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on August 26, 1943, he was the son of the late James and Ann Wasnick Kozemchak of Dallas, PA. Jim was a graduate of Dallas High School, Dallas, PA and Lincoln College Prep, Philadelphia, PA, attended Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was a Navy Veteran serving during the Berlin Crisis, Cuban Crisis, Haitian Crisis and Vietnam War.

After graduation from Wilkes University, he worked for Exxon in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Stroudsburg as a dealer salesman. In 1969 he purchased Paramount Photography Studio in Plymouth, PA, and in 1972 he purchased Ace Hoffman Studio in Wilkes-Barre, PA, which he and his former wife, Patricia, ran successfully for 35 years. He was a well-known photographer and had photographed many Presidents and dignitaries throughout his career. Jim also started a laundromat and a convenience store. He published a magazine, The Guide to Northeastern Pennsylvania, and a magazine on the Hurricane Agnes Flood of 1972 with his brother and father. He also owned a real estate company consisting of over 60 apartments.

Jim’s memberships included: Dallas Kiwanis Club, Elk Club, George M. Dallas, Lodge #531 F&AM, Dallas, PA, Caldwell Consistory at Bloomsburg, PA, Irem Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S., Dallas, PA, where he was their official photographer, Harvey’s Lake American Legion, Secretary for Northeastern Professional Photographers Society, The Professional Photographers of America and corporate board member of the State Police Troop “P” Camp Cadet.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to ski, hunt, hike, work on his military vehicle collection and travel the world. He was described as an ambitious, dedicated and funny character! Jim had many friends who enjoyed his company, jokes and stories. Jim’s greatest joys were his two daughters and their families and his beloved dog, “Blue,” who accompanied him everywhere.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Paster, and her husband, Bradley, and their children, Caroline, Katherine and Jacob James, of Westwood, MA, and by his daughter, Wendy Matesanz, and her husband, Jonathan, and their children, Alexa and Corey James, of Freeville, NY. He is also survived by his brother, David Kozemchak, and his wife, Joy, of Dallas, PA, and by his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister,Elaine Kozemchak Roberts.

On behalf of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania and Right Worshipful Grand Master Robert J. Bateman, George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531 presented Bro. Peter Calkins with the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award. The award was presented to Bro. Peter Calkins by Bro. Donald Weaver, Acting District Deputy Grand Master of the 12th Masonic District for his outstanding service to youth and Freemasonry by serving as a dedicated member of George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531, and a devoted Scout Leader of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council No. 501 and Dallas Troop 281 of the Boy Scouts of America. Bro. Peter Calkins was nominated for the award by Bro. Barry Wagner, past master.

Bro. Peter Calkins is currently serving as Senior Warden of George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531 and will serve as Worshipful Master in 2016. Calkins has been a devoted scouting leader serving as a Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 281 and currently serving as Scoutmaster for Troop 281 in Dallas.

Bro. George William Pyle Sr.

Bro. George William Pyle Sr., 89, of Dallas, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born in Somerset County, a son of the late Harvey and Lucille Rhoades Pyle, he was a graduate of Somerset High School and Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in vocational agriculture. George was a director at West Side Vocational Technical School from its inception until 1988.

George was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II and retiring as a lieutenant commander in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dallas, and The Back Mountain Men’s Ecumenical Group (BMMEG).

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Pyle; sisters, Marion Huffman and Elizabeth Eisler.

Surviving are his wife, the former Carole Protzeller, at home; daughter, Gretchen Slater, Bel Aire, Maryland, Chrisan Pyle-Holton, Tampa, Florida; son, George (Kurt) Pyle, Dallas; four grandchildren.
