KINGSTON TWP. — Paul M. Sabol, 89, former Kingston Township police chief, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Paul M. Sabol Sr. and Josephine Evanko Sabol. Paul attended Luzerne High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
Paul worked as a supervisor for Columbia Porch Shade in Wilkes-Barre before joining the Kingston Township Police force in 1963 as a part-time officer. He became police chief in 1972 and served until his retirement in 1993.
Paul was extremely active in numerous community organizations and was a past president of both the Luzerne County Chiefs of Police and Pennsylvania State Chiefs of Police Associations.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife of 61 years, Ferne Howell Sabol; brother, Richard; and sister, Josephine.
Surviving are his daughter, Pamela S. and husband, Dr. Patrick Sriharsha, of Bloomsburg; son Paul Robert (Bob) Sabol and wife, Gina, of Trucksville; grandchildren Robert J. Morgan, Patrick V. Sriharsha, Alexander P. Sriharsha, Anthony Sabol, Leigh Brunas and husband, John, and Dr. Michael Paul Sabol and wife, Erin; great-grandchildren Maya Brunas and Bryce Sabol; sister Joni Sabol, of Wilkes-Barre; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2018, from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, PA 18708. Reverend Dick Williams, pastor of Trucksville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Shavertown. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 6, and from 10 a.m. Monday until time of service at the funeral home.
