Bro. Jay P. Niskey, A Life Member

Jay Perrottet Niskey, 83, of Dallas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend passed away Monday, May 16, 2022.

Jay was born to Jay Miller Niskey and Ervanna Hall Dutton Niskey, Nov. 30, 1938, in Ridley Park.

Jay was a devoted Master Mason, Mason Knights of Templar, Scottish Rite and an avid Boy Scout. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard and an active member of Shavertown United Methodist Church. He was the owner of Bowman Petroleum, Inc., and served as an officer of the National Oil Jobbers Association. He and his wife, Alice, enjoyed traveling to many different countries and passed that love down to their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their homes in Arizona and at Harveys Lake. Jay and Alice never missed an event for their grandchildren, whether it was a marching band competition, horse show or baseball or soccer game.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice Barnhardt; and their two children and spouses, Susan Niskey and Jim Popp; Karen and Tom Gurzynski; and grandchildren and their families, Peri Niskey and Collin Green; Kyle Gurzynski; Sarah Gurzynski; Cory and Lauren Popp; Dana Popp; and great-grandchildren, Mira and Juniper Popp. He is also survived by his sisters, Marian Roy; and Jayne Niskey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bro. Paul F. McCue

Paul McCue, 87, of Dallas, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John and Maude Monahan McCue and was a graduate of Coughlin High School.

Paul was a perfect gentleman. A kind and gentle soul, his family was the most important thing in his life. He was a loving and patient husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born on the 4th of July, and for 40 years he enjoyed hosting a family reunion birthday celebration.

Paul was the owner and operator of Dallas Auto parts for many years before his retirement. He was heavily involved in his community. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas, and was a lector for some years. He was a member of George M. Dallas Masonic Lodge #531 F&AM, Irem Shrine and the Sheppard’s unit of the shrine and Dallas Lions Club.

Paul was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Grace Apolinaro McCue; brothers, Jack McCue and Donald McCue; brothers-in-law, Paul Kane, Michael Dunleavy, William Cutter and Harry Dombroski; and sisters-in-law, Katherine McCue and Mary Edna Apolinaro.

Surviving are daughters, Dianne Brown and her husband, Norm, Wake Forrest, N.C.; Susan McGroarty and her husband, Michael, Pottstown; Beth Hermes and her husband, David, Houston, Texas; son, Paul McCue and his wife, Cheri, Dallas; grandchildren, Rachael (Jason) Hayes, Lisa (Brett) Mazzerle, Paul T. Bro. Robert W. Masoner – Life Member

Robert W. Masoner, 90, of Willow Street, PA, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022. Born in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late John B. and Bertha L. (Wilson) Masoner. He was married to his beloved wife, Gladys L. (Kittinger) Masoner for 69 years.

Robert graduated from Franklin & Marshall with a bachelor’s degree in biology and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He worked 32 years for Bell Telephone as a district commercial manager. Robert was a proud Mason in Dallas, PA, and a member of the Rotary Club in Wilkes-Barre. He was very active in the Wallace Nutting Collector’s Club. Along with his wife, he enjoyed running their co-op antique business and going to auctions. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Strasburg for 35 years. Robert loved F&M basketball and the Philadelphia Phillies, but his favorite athletes were his grandchildren, whom he supported through all their athletic endeavors. He enjoyed woodcarving, reading biographies, and playing golf.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Michele L. Steele (Larry), Robin W. Cancelliere, son, Dr. Robert W. Masoner II (Cheryl), grandchildren, Mark P. Steele II (Marci), Melanie L. Miller (Adam), Lauren E. DeLuca (Steven), Christopher T. Cancelliere, Chelsea L. Cancelliere, Dr. Hannah L. Masoner, Harley G. Masoner, Seth M. Masoner, Zebulon W. Masoner, great-grandchildren, Julianne, Oliver, Claire, and Declan. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane E. Sharp, and grandson, Benjamin L. Masoner.

Bro. Robert Schalm, A Life Member

Robert H. Schalm, 81, of Dallas, died Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Advent Health at Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Born in Kingston, May 18, 1940, he was the son of the late Paul and Freida Schalm.

He graduated from Forty Fort High School and Admiral Farragut Academy. He received his degree and commission in the U.S. Navy from Penn State University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He served as a lieutenant on the USS Lorain County (LST1177) and the USS Tolovana (A064) and was an observer of the last hydrogen bomb tests off of Christmas Island in the South Pacific.

Bob was president of Rohans Inc., a manufacturer representative company and in later years a member of the Merchandise Execution Team at Home Depot.

He was a member of George M. Dallas Lodge 531, Caldwell Consistory, Irem Shrine, National Association of Atomic Veterans, a volunteer at the American Red Cross and a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association.

Bob enjoyed playing golf, tennis and skiing. He was an avid Penn State football fan and season ticket holder.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his long-time companion, Karen Ann Brek; and his brother, Paul J. Schalm.

He is survived by his daughters, Robin Schalm Mosier and husband, Sam; Connie R. Schalm, all of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Katherine Schalm Nance and husband, Scott, Sanford, Fla.; grandson, Kory B. Schalm, Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Carole Schalm Ertley, Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.

Bro. Walter Glogowski

Walter Glogowski, 85, from Shavertown, went on his journey on Christmas Day, Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, peacefully surrounded by his family.

Walter was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Plymouth, son of Nicholas and Helen Skowronski Glogowski.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cigarski, of Shavertown; son, David Glogowski and wife, Shellise, Rochester, N.Y.; son, Paul Glogowski and wife, Paula, Falls; and daughter, Linda Austin and husband, Keith, Sweet Valley. He has six grandchildren, Nicholas Glogowski and wife, Alycia, Mexico, N.Y.; Laura Austin, Sweet Valley; Matthew Glogowski, Swoyersville; Sarah Austin, Las Vegas, Nev.; Steven Glogowski, Peckville; and Joel Austin and wife, Johanna, Las Vegas, Nev. Walter has two great-grandsons, Austin Fisher; and Liam Austin; also a sister, Ann Koprowski, Mahwah, N.J.; as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his childhood best friend, Dr. Nick Giordano.

He is preceded in death by his brother, John; and son, Walter Jr.

Walter accomplished a great deal in his remarkable life. He attended Plymouth High School and earned his bachelor’s degree at Wilkes University. He taught civics and history at Plymouth Junior High School and industrial arts at Dallas Junior High School. He was a Uniserv representative for the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association and became the regional director. Walter also became an arbitrator and fact finder. Some of his fondest days were as the director of JCC’s Camp Noar.

Walter held many leadership roles at the Masonic Lodge of Dallas, including the Shepherd group which transported sick children to out-of-town hospitals. Walter served on many boards throughout the Valley including the United Rehabilitation Service, United Way of Wyoming Valley, Leadership Wilkes Barre, Junior Leadership Wilkes-Barre, Leadership Wilkes Barre Alumni Association, Economic Development Council of the Northeast Region, Arts at Hayfield, Back Mountain Communications Center, Jackson Twp. Board of Supervisors, Northeast Council Boy Scouts of America, State Correctional Institution-Dallas Citizen’s Advisory Committee and Schools to Work Education Partnership Committee. He was also a member of Jackson Twp. Recreation Park Board, Greater Wilkes-Barre Area Labor Management Council, Blue Cross Blue Shield Advisory Board, Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education Committee, Luzerne Intermediate Unit Number 18 In-service Council, Luzerne County Business and Education Partnership, Luzerne County Workforce Investment Development Agency, National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Industrial Arts Association of Pennsylvania, Phi Delta Kappa Wilkes University Chapter, Greater Wilke-Barre Chamber of Commerce, Pennsylvania Staff Organization, National Staff Organization, National Labor Relations Board and Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board.

Walter received numerous awards throughout his career including the Distinguished Service Award from United Rehabilitation Services, Distinguished Leadership Award – Leadership Wilkes-Barre, Friends of Education Award from the Wilke-Barre Education Association, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Area Labor Management Council, the United Way of Wyoming Valley Labor Award, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Area Labor Management CAP Award and many others.

Walter was an outstanding athlete involved in wrestling and track and field while in high school. At Wilkes College he won the state championship in wrestling. Throughout his life Walter had many hobbies and interests including wine making, cultivating figs, gardening, cooking, fine arts and wood working and was skilled at them all. Walter was an avid fisherman and crabber and enjoyed anything outdoors. He was an exceptional cook and loved to entertain.

Bro. Peter J. McTague

Peter John McTague passed away on Wednesday December 8th, 2021 at his home in Newark Delaware where he resided for over 30 years with his wife Judith Williams-McTague, who passed away in 2004, and their five children Gregory, Molly, Patricia, Sean and David.  He was 78 years old.

Peter grew up in Plymouth PA.  He was the son of John Peter McTague and Mary Domowicz McTague.  He attended Saint Vincent de Paul grade school and Plymouth High School where he was a star football and wrestling athlete.  

He was an NCO in the Army from 1963 to 1966, serving in the Vietnam Theater. He then went on to an engineering career at Bell Telephone and later AT&T. 

Upon retirement he formed PJM Consultants where he was actively involved until 2020.

He was a member of the George M. Dallas Masonic Lodge in PA and the Shrine and Scottish Rite. He was active in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and numerous VA projects and several community organizations.

He is survived by his children, daughters-in-law Raquel and Leilani, son-in-law Jason and eight grandchildren. Peter also leaves behind his Sisters Patricia Brislin, Jacquelyn Morrone and Brother Michael. He is also survived by his dear canine buddy Frankie.

Bro. Frank J. Marinangeli, Sr.

Frank James Marinangeli Sr., 78, of the Hilldale section of Plains Township, loving husband, father, and grandfather, laid down his red hammer and passed from this life into heaven on Saturday, November 20, 2021, while being cared for by his loving family and the staff of Allied Services Hospice. Born on August 16, 1943, in the family home in the Keystone section of Plains Township. Frank was the son of the late Frank and Helen Andreoli Marinangeli. Frank grew up in the Plains area and attended Cotton Avenue Elementary School and was a graduate of the Plains Memorial High School, class of 1961. In 1964, Frank enlisted into the United States Army where he was assigned to the 300 Field Hospital of Wilkes-Barre and into the Army Reserve where he served as a medical corpsman. Frank was honorably discharged after his term of service. On September 9, 1967, Frank married Dolores Shiloski, together the couple raised one child Frank Jr. Frank held many jobs over the years for different businesses and construction firms, none more important than starting his own construction business, Frank Marinangeli Home Repair and Remodeling. Frank hammered his first nail with his red hammer for his business on January 1, 1986. He was a hard worker and there was nothing that he couldn’t do. When he showed up to a job in his red Ford truck you knew the job was going to be done right. His dedication to detail and craftsmanship was passed on to his partner and son Frank Jr. over the years. Together, over the past several years, the father and son team completed many construction and remodeling jobs in the valley and the Plains area. When Frank wasn’t driving his truck to a job, you could find him and his wife Dolores driving to some far-off destination on his 85th Anniversary Edition Harley Davidson. Frank enjoyed riding all over the country. From Stergus, to Arizona, to Florida, he rode for enjoyment and adventure. When he wasn’t riding on the highway you could find him in a local parade participating in the Irem Motor Corp. with his fellow Shiners from the Irem Temple. Frank enjoyed watching and rooting for Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers on the weekends in the Fall. He was also an avid collector of historical beer cans and a big NASCAR fan. He and his wife were past members of St. John the Baptist, Miners-Mills, and current members of the Parish community of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Frank was a member of the Irem Temple Shiner, Dallas, Plains American Legion Post 558, the ITLO Club of Hilldale, and an honorary member of the IACC of Hudson. In his later years, Frank enjoyed being the Papa to his two granddaughters Ciara and Giana who will miss him dearly along with the rest of his family. A special thank you to Doctor Dewitt Aregawi, of the Hershey Hospital; Bayada Home Health; Geisinger Physical Therapy; and Allied Services Hospice for the exceptional services you provided to Frank throughout his illness. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Joan Bonomo. Bro. David A. Daniels

avid A. Daniels, 70, of Shavertown and Lake Carey, earned his wings to heaven on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Albert Oliver Daniels and Ruth Edna Morgan Daniels.

He graduated from Wyoming Area High School and attended Williamsport Technical School. He worked for Ridgley Block, Shawnee Concrete and Coon Concrete, all as a CDL driver. After retirement, he worked for LCCC as a driving instructor.

During and after his career, he was always willing to help friends and family with any and all side jobs, especially concrete. He was known as the foreman and gladly gave instructions to everyone on the job site.

David was an avid boater, skier, swimmer, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed flea markets, antiquing and couldn’t pass up a good roadside treasure. He was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church, Izaak Walton hunting club, Lake Carey Sportsmans club and was a Mason at the Dallas lodge. He accomplished his dream of having his cottage at Lake Carey for the last 20 years where he made countless memories with family and friends.

David had many friends, some more than 50 years, such as Bob Stanton, Bob Winters, and Michael Donnelly just to name a few. He was an inspiration to many and showed what it was like to live life to the fullest with no regrets. He was a generous, optimistic (to the end), hardworking, loyal man who always kept his word. He would make a deal on a handshake. David was a kind and gentle soul who loved to laugh. He taught his sons to have respect and kindness to others from his example. And as you could have guessed, this was not written without Dave’s instruction.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Nancy Coslett; his two sons, Ryan and his wife Kristin, Shavertown; and Paul and his wife Nikki, Dallas; his beloved grandchildren who were the light of his life, Tyler, Cassidy, Benjamin, and Addison; his brothers-in-law, Jack, Jeff and Steven Coslett, who he considered brothers; his many nieces and nephews; his longtime devoted friends; his lifelong friend he considered a sister, Madeline Sivak and husband, Andy Sivak, Doylestown; his devoted aunt, Edith Hill; cousins, Dave Morgan, Bethanne Predney and Doug Daniels; and sisters, Debbie Switzer and Carol Travelbee.
